The Greater Good
Fashion Design
Description

This project intends to remind people on the importance of a specific event, the Holocaust. It was inspired by the book "The Tattooist of Auschwitz“ and the belief that we never know the real story behind a person. The garment consists of a four-piece outfit made up of oversized pants, a knitted and woven two-piece top, a faux leather holster, and an oversized coat with straight shoulders and faux leather details. Through this, blending a Jewish and military look.

The story behind my concept
My concept derives form the book "The Tattooist of Auschwitz", a love story about Lale Sokolov; however, my inspiration came from a specific event of the book. Lale was taken to a concentration camp were he got offered the job of being the tattooist, which he declined since he did not want to hurt his own people. To what the officer responded that another person was going to take this spot and perform it in a horrific way, Lale then accepted. After this event the only thing I could think of was the pressure Lale was having because of the judgement he would be receiving from both sides, even though he was just doing this for the greater good.

From this, emerged my concept and message of a hidden identity that no one sees, who gets judged by society without knowing the reality behind what is seen from the outside.
